Three Illinois men charged with felony drug crimes

Possession of illegal substances in Illinois is punishable by jail time and fines. When charges for distribution are introduced, the potential sentence for the crimes escalates quickly. Whether it is for marijuana, prescription drugs or heroin, Illinois law enforcement is looking to put those they associate with using and distributing drugs behind bars. For this reason, Chicago residents facing felony drug charges need to pursue a solid criminal defense in order to protect their name and their future.

In Aurora, three men were arrested and charged in relation with an alleged heroin distribution operation. The arrests came on the heels of a search and seizure operation conducted by police. Police found a large sum of cash in a vehicle occupied by two of the suspects. Subsequently, they searched the house of the third man, where they found even more cash. Police also seized nine kilograms of heroin estimated at a street value of $1.35 million.

The two men police pulled over each face a felony count for money laundering. The third man was charged with money laundering along with additional counts for possession and possession with intent to deliver. Both possession charges are also felonies. A conviction for money laundering bears a sentence of 4 to 15 years, and the additional charges against the third man could lead to a jail term between 15 and 60 years.

A conviction for drug charges of any kind can seriously complicate your future. In addition to time spent in jail, you may be denied opportunities for housing or work when you are released. It is important to recognize the gravity of these charges and fight to obtain a reduced sentence or avoid sentencing altogether.
