Chicago man faces firearm charges

Firearm laws vary from state to state and, if you're not careful, it is easy to fall afoul of them. It is not only using weapons for violence or theft that can get you into trouble. Simply being in possession of an illegal firearm or possessing a gun in an illegal manner can result in serious charges, potentially leading to hefty fines and lengthy sentences. Furthermore, dealing firearms requires a federal license. Accusations of selling guns without a license can lead to a person facing potential jail time.

In Chicago, a 25-year-old man is currently facing the reality of this. He stands accused of illegal possession and trafficking of firearms. The crimes are alleged to have taken place between 2010 and 2012, during which time he is thought to have trafficked 39 firearms. He has entered a plea of not guilty in response to the charges.

He reportedly had a previous felony conviction preventing him from being permitted to own a gun. Authorities allege that the man was in possession of at least two firearms on each of several dates following this conviction. The young man is thought to have dealt in various weapons, including shotguns, rifles and revolvers. If he is found guilty, he could face fines, on top of a lengthy prison sentence.

If you have any worries about Chicago's weapon laws, or you are facing charges relating to weapons crimes, you may benefit from some decisive advice. This is where an attorney may be of great benefit. By listening to your side of the story and ensuring the case is properly investigated, he or she can guide you through your defense and work toward clearing your name.
