Drug charges threaten man and woman from Illinois

As most residents of Illinois are aware, criminal charges can have a dramatic effect on your future, particularly if you are convicted. Even being investigated on suspicion of criminal activity can be enough to get you suspended from your job. Meanwhile, friends and family may be unsure how to react and even strangers may treat you poorly if the investigation is public knowledge.

A conviction has even more serious implications, as you will then have a permanent mark on your record. On top of that is the potential for fines and other penalties such as community service or time in prison. As such, a good defense is vital.

In Illinois, two people are learning this the hard way. A 45-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman have both been indicted on serious drug charges. The latter could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years, along with fines in the region of $1 million on charges relating to pseudoephedrine possession and the production of methamphetamine.

The man has been accused of conspiring to distribute cocaine. As a result he could face a fine of up to $2 million along with as much as 40 years in prison. This could mean spending the rest of his life in prison.

If you are faced with criminal charges of any kind, it is important to act fast. An attorney can explain the charges against you and may be able to help you with your defense. With the right guidance you can work toward avoiding conviction or discussing a plea deal to reduce the penalties you face.
