Two workers arrested in overtime fraud scheme

Two workers, formerly employed by Amtrak, were charged and arrested for a fraudulent overtime scheme which billed over 900 hours that they never worked. The case is proceeding in federal court. They have been accused of fraud on an agency receiving federal funds and theft of government property.

One of the defendants worked for Amtrak for 39 years. He was investigated, and video surveillance of his home established that he wasn’t at work sites when he claimed he was. The investigators examined cell phone records, GPS tracking data, and billing records to track each of their whereabouts.

One of the accused allegedly billed for 688 overtime and 41 regular hours for a total of $71,000. The other person billed for 192 overtime and 28 regular hours for $20,000.

If these two men are convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison. Amtrak also stated that they plan on taking appropriate action against the employees in due time.

Facing criminal charges can be terrifying and overwhelming. It is okay to feel like you are lost but don’t let it stop you from taking action. You should call an attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can review the situation and may be able to immediately begin working on securing your release and preparing your case for trial or settlement. These situations are not the kind that you want to deal with alone. Having an attorney on your side can bring peace of mind and clear direction on how to handle your case, deal with the prosecutor and start moving forward in your life.
