Man facing DUI charge after hitting, injuring woman with car

A man in Illinois is currently facing a drunk driving charge after police said he hit a woman. The car accident occurred on a recent Saturday. However, just because the man is facing a DUI charge does not mean he is automatically guilty in the law’s eyes. Instead, he is presumed innocent until proved guilty.

The accident took place at around 4:20 p.m. According to police, the man was under the influence when he suddenly struck the woman with his automobile on an avenue. The accident not only injured the woman but also affected traffic in the area of the accident for an extended period of time following the collision.

Authorities said they fortunately expected the 38-year-old woman whom the man hit to survive. Following the injury accident, some individuals in the area reported feeling nervous about the safety of the area. Specifically, they claimed that lower speed limits or speed bumps were necessary to make the residents there safer.

The possible consequences of a DUI conviction include fines along with a revoked or suspended driver’s license, and even jail time. In addition, a conviction may make it difficult for someone to claim certain jobs, go to college or choose certain apartments. Convictions can also bring unwanted publicity and unfortunately are part of the public record. However, those facing DUI charges have the right to fight these charges in an effort to get them reduced or removed altogether. A qualified attorney in Illinois will look for holes in the prosecution’s argument in an effort to minimize the consequences of a DUI charge and ultimately protect the client’s rights.
