Although serious, a DUI charge is not a conviction

A charge for driving under the influence of alcohol or driving while intoxicated can do irreversible damage not only to a person's record but also to his or her reputation. In the state of Illinois, the penalties for a DUI charge can mean hefty fines and even jail time, should a conviction result. These consequences can cause many sleepless nights full of anxiety and worry. However, a DUI charge is far from a conviction.

A Libertyville woman was recently arrested and charged with DUI after she was allegedly found slumped over in the driver's seat at an active intersection. Police were called to the scene and said the woman was sleeping. Reports say the woman was awakened by officers and her vehicle was towed from the scene.

Allegedly, police officers found an open alcohol container inside the vehicle. Police reports say that the woman was arrested after field sobriety tests were performed. Officers arrested the woman and charged her with illegal transportation of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol. She is scheduled to appear in court soon.

Even though things like Breathalyzers and field sobriety tests are not always 100 percent accurate, a person in this situation may still end up with a DUI charge. Charges such as this can stay on a person's record and show up during future background checks, inhibiting future employment opportunities and making life in general much more difficult. Acquiring the services of an experienced attorney could prove imperative to one's case. A criminal defense lawyer experienced with DUI cases can ensure one's rights are protected and help with guidance during this trying time.
