Police forces will ramp up DUI efforts this holiday season

The holiday season is cause for celebration. Illinois residents are encouraged to celebrate the holidays with family and friends, but do so responsibly. There are more arrests made for driving under the influence of alcohol during the holidays than at any other time of the year. Facing a DUI charge can definitely put a damper on this joyous and wonderful season.

Police forces in Illinois will be stepping up patrols and working around the clock to keep travelers safe throughout the holidays. The Illinois Department of Transportation is working with police forces across the state to remind motorists to drive sober and wear seat belts. They are warning motorists that driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be tolerated.

Illinois drivers may notice increased patrols, roadside safety checks and seat belt enforcement zones in efforts to prevent accidents and injuries. According to IDOT, unbuckled motorists make up a high number of fatalities in motor vehicle crashes even though seat belt usage in Illinois is over 95 percent. Police are encouraging drivers to make smart decisions such as driving only when sober and always wear seat belts.

Being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol is embarrassing, humiliating and can do irreversible damage to a person's reputation. Regardless of sobriety tests results, officers can initiate an arrest whenever they suspect a driver to be intoxicated. Those in Illinois who have been arrested and charged with DUI may feel devastated, but it is helpful to know that options are available to defend against this charge. An experienced attorney will work to achieve the best possible outcome while ensuring that personal rights are protected.
