Driver recieves DUI charge after allegedly crashing into a home

Without question, driving under the influence of alcohol is reckless and very dangerous. Police forces across the state of Illinois are continuing to crack down on drunk drivers. Increased patrols and frequent DUI checkpoints are examples of the measures being taken to keep roadways safe across the state. A man in Libertyville is facing several charges, including DUI after allegedly crashing into a private residence.

The incident occurred during the overnight hours on West Winchester Road. According to reports, a homeowner heard a loud crash, and discovered a vehicle had collided with a his garage and a tree. Reports said the homeowner alerted police.

When police arrived they questioned the driver of the vehicle. Allegedly, the driver said he had been drinking at a local bar before the crash and became uncooperative when police began to ask about his level of intoxication. Reports said the man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage, among other charges.

Being convicted of a DUI in the state of Illinois can mean steep fines and many months of incarceration. Even if a motorist passes sobriety tests, he or she can still receive a DUI if a law enforcement officer suspects the person of driving while intoxicated. However, a DUI charge is not a conviction. Individuals in Illinois who have been charged with DUI have the right to consult a legal representative. Obtaining the services of a knowledgeable and experienced attorney could prove imperative to one's case and ensure that personal rights are protected.
