Chicago man faces felony charges for drugs, weapons, robbery

A Chicago man is facing serious criminal charges after an incident that happened this weekend. The 32-year-old man was arrested after police received a call about an armed robbery in Evanston.

When police found a car matching the description the caller provided, they attempted to stop it. The Chicago man, however, fled the scene. Evanston police arrested him after he crashed into multiple cars.

During the arrest, police found crack cocaine, a gun and $1,000 in cash. The man is now facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, being an armed habitual offender, armed violence and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon — all felony charges.

Facing felony charges is no laughing matter. A felony conviction often leads to expensive fines and jail time. On top of that, the effects of a felony on your record can last long after you get out of prison. It may be difficult to secure a job and could even keep you from renting an apartment.

Because of the serious consequences that a felony conviction can bring, it is very important that anyone facing such charges be prepared to defend themselves. Everyone accused of a crime is afforded the right to defend themselves against the charges — no matter how serious they are. Building a strong criminal defense, however, is not an easy thing to do alone.

With the help of an attorney, an individual can better understand his or her rights and options for dealing with the charges at hand.
