Home search results in 5 people facing drug charges

In the state of Illinois and across the country, those accused of any form of criminal offense probably face one of the most daunting times of their lives. Even when an individual is arrested for something considered extremely serious such as drug charges, that individual should keep in mind that a charge is far from a conviction. For an accused person to be convicted, the charges against him or her must be proved beyond a reasonable doubt by the prosecution at trial.

Recently in Mt Vernon, five people were arrested on drug charges after police searched a home. According to reports, a police investigation suggested that heroin was being sold at the house. Police say they obtained a search warrant and searched the home.

Reports say that the search resulted in several drugs and drug equipment being found at the residence. The drugs included heroin, methamphetamine and cannabis, according to police reports. Five individuals allegedly connected to the residence were taken into custody by police on multiple drug charges. Two men and three women were arrested and ranged in ages from 32 to 47.

Even though these individuals were arrested and taken into custody on various charges, there are resources available to them to increase their odds of obtaining the best possible outcome from a trial. Sometimes, individuals arrested on drug charges in Illinois may have the opportunity to choose to negotiate plea deals with the prosecution. In a plea deal, the defendant may choose to plead guilty to one or more charges in return for a more lenient sentence. In any case, an experienced criminal defense attorney can carefully analyze the circumstances of one’s case to determine the best possible defense strategy, focusing on safeguarding the client’s rights throughout the legal proceedings.
