Facing a DUI charge can be a dreadful experience

A charge of driving under the influence of alcohol can be humiliating and have disastrous effects on a person’s life for many, many years. In Illinois, a DUI charge can result in jail time and huge fines. Being thrown into a jail cell is dehumanizing and is something that no person wants to face. However, a DUI charge does not necessarily mean an individual will face a conviction. Although a charge like this can make a person feel like all hope is lost, there are options available to help those who have been charged.

Recently in Aurora, a man was arrested and charged with a DUI after a traffic stop. The incident occurred just after midnight. According to police, the man was traveling on Lincoln Avenue and turned onto East New York Street, but failed to use his signal when he turned.

Police said they initiated a traffic stop and the man turned into a vacant parking lot. Allegedly, the man got out of his vehicle and began arguing with police. Police say they suspected the man of being intoxicated so they arrested him and took him into custody. He was issued a citation for failing to signal and charged with driving under the influence.

In Illinois, police officers can arrest an individual if they suspect he or she is operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Even if sobriety tests are passed, a person could still end up with a DUI charge. Those in Illinois who have been accused of driving under the influence reserve the right to seek legal counsel and defend against the charge. A knowledgeable attorney can protect personal rights and provide much-needed guidance during this time.
