There are options available to defend against a DUI charge

It goes without saying that driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous things a person can do. Unfortunately, the state of Illinois sees high rates of intoxicated drivers, prompting police forces across the state to step up efforts to combat this problem. Getting hit with a DUI can be humiliating and leave a person filled with worry.

A man is facing a DUI charge after a recent accident in Effingham. The accident happened on North Lakeview Drive. According to reports, the man was traveling northeast when he lost control of his car, veered off the roadway and hit a tree, with the car coming to rest in a ditch.

Authorities said the man was injured and taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. There were two juveniles in the car at the time of the crash, but it was not reported if they had sustained injuries. Police said the man was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and is now facing charges of DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, endangering the life of a child and other charges.

In Illinois, officers will use several methods to determine if a driver is intoxicated, such as Breathalyzers and field sobriety tests. However, even if a driver passes these sobriety tests, he or she can still be charged with DUI if officers suspect the individual was driving under the influence of alcohol. Luckily, those who have been charged with a DUI have the right to defend against this charge. A skilled litigator can provide guidance and work to increase the odds of achieving the best possible outcome.
